Paradise Complete is a conversation through sound collage teeming with daydreams, free associations, and non-sequiturs between Nick Meryhew (Chicago, IL) and Bryn Davis (St. Paul, MN). The duo assembles, synthesizes, scavenges, and denatures gobs of sonic scraps and sculpt their work out of their detritus. Their debut album, Slice of Life (Parlour Tapes+), came into being by following simple guidelines that led into strange places:

  • Mutual trust

  • Do what feels right

  • Take as long as you need

  • Don’t overthink it

Nick is an experimental musician, arts educator, improviser, and armchair geologist. Their work explores ideas of assemblage, hybridity, and nonhierarchy through a sculptural approach to found sound. They currently perform with Paradise Complete, Tallulah Bankheist, NASDAQUIRI, and with a variety of Chicago improvisers. Bryn is a composer whose works are oriented around active discovery, fluid possibility, and (not infrequently) absurdity. They have won awards including an ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Award in 2022 and have released music on Parlour Tapes+, Bánh Mì Verlag, Ham Bag Records, and Summit Records.

Physique is Neil Quigley (Kilkenny, IRL) and Sam Scranton (Chicago, IL). Together they make music with a wide range of means—homemade instruments, TTS voices, lap steel, Ableton presets, found object percussion field recording, Apple DLS synth, Light Resistor Boxes AND MORE. Sometimes warm and organic, and at other times shiny and digital, their music often begins with improvisation that gets revised and restructured over time. The sound world is eclectic, but the music retains a core aesthetic focus that runs throughout. Neil has released material with Moot Tapes (Irl), Destiny Trax (US), Miúin (Irl) and Fairpoint Recordings (Irl) and has also self released his music.Sam has released music on The Leaf Label (UK), Parlour Tapes+ (US), and Homeroom Chicago (US).

Andrew Tham has composed a utopian score to a musical tutorial that feigns knowledge while stumbling into personal truth.

There is a perch from which the Leechhawk sits in wait. It calculates. Both the worst idea you ever had and the greatest accomplishment you ever felt. Let their majesties, Alex Frissell and Donald Curtis, surround your sense of sound. There is something happening but they cannot describe it.
